Boston architect Henry Forbes Bigelow designed it in a Dutch Colonial Revival manner, using broad overhanging eaves, segmental-arched windows, panel shutters and tall brick chimneys. A hipped wood-shingle roof covers the main block, which is flanked by lattice-screened porches. Inside, a central hall leads to a conservatory, a paneled sitting room and a morning room, with service rooms in the west section. Hoopes married a daughter of lumber baron Samuel Pruyn and later became vice president and board chairman of Finch, Pruyn and Company. The house was part of a communal Pruyn family estate that also included Bigelow's Hyde and Cunningham Houses. It is the earliest of Bigelow's four Glens Falls works and a rare New York example of his estate-house style. Its terraced grounds were largely cleared around 1960, but the house remains in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect: Henry Forbes Bigelow; Builder: H.
