Built by Boss Jones himself, it has a barn, a second barn and a shed on the farm.","why_significant":"It is a representative, slightly more mature and sophisticated example of a late Greek Revival/early Italianate rural farmhouse. It is also one of three known houses built with stacked plank construction, an innovative technique used by Boss Jones. Its largely intact nineteenth-century outbuildings and surviving farm setting add to its value.","narrative":"Set on a 104.1-acre farm along McGuire School Road in Duanesburg, this two-story, five-bay frame farmhouse dates to about 1860. Boss Jones built it himself. The house combines late Greek Revival features with Italianate influence: a full entablature wraps the building, corner pilasters are unusually broad, and the central entrance has sidelights, a transom and a trabeated surround. A hipped roof reflects the Italianate style, and eyebrow windows pierce the frieze of the side wing. Aluminum siding now covers the original board-and-batten exterior. The house is also notable for stacked plank construction, a technique known in only three houses, including two octagon houses associated with Jones. Three nineteenth-century frame outbuildings survive: a cruciform barn with attached sheds, an L-shaped barn and a small shed. Together they preserve the historic farm setting. The house is one of several farmhouses attributed to Jones in the area and belongs to a group of related resources recognized for his work.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Built by Boss Jones himself (inventory form lists architect and builder as unknown)","architectural_style":"Late Greek Revival / early Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Private residence in use as a home; condition rated fair, with no known threats; the original board-and-batten siding is covered by aluminum siding.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.180044-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/84003231.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003231/27e62b1477-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003231/27e62b1477-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Schenectady County","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Boss_Jones_House_Oct_09.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Schenectady County</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Boss_Jones_House_Oct_09.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314595","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._D._(Boss)_Jones_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4647096"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schenectady-county/jones-a-d-boss-house-84003231/"}
