The intact nineteenth-century outbuildings and historic farm setting add to its significance. It is also tied to Benjamin Gaige, a member of a prominent Quaker family in Duanesburg.","narrative":"Built around 1830 on Weaver Road in Duanesburg, the Gaige Homestead is a farm of 71 acres of fields and woods, reduced from an original 93. The main house is a two-story, five-bay frame building with clapboard siding, a gable roof with cornice returns, and two brick end chimneys. Its central doorway is recessed and framed by slender pilasters, half-sidelights and a transom. A one-story west wing and a rear wing extend from the main block. Four nineteenth-century outbuildings survive: a carriage house, a shop and two sheds. The property is significant as a representative vernacular Federal style farmhouse with its historic farm setting still intact. Benjamin Gaige came from Dutchess County around 1826 and settled on land leased from James Duane. He belonged to a large Quaker family prominent in Duanesburg. The farm grew from 42 acres in 1826 to over 220 acres by 1870 and was later divided among relatives, who held this property until 1944.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Private residence in good condition, with a west wing recently converted to an apartment and no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.37992-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/84003202.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314540","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaige_Homestead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5517013"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schenectady-county/gaige-homestead-84003202/"}
