The main block was built about 1868-1869, with a new front facade and tower added in 1891 (dated 1893 on one line of the form).","why_significant":"The church is argued to be a significant example of nineteenth-century religious architecture in Duanesburg, combining a Greek Revival main block with a late Victorian facade. The facade, designed by A. Wilmot of Amsterdam, is the only documented architect-designed construction in the town. It is also tied to the oldest Baptist congregation in Schenectady County, and the early twentieth-century church hall adds significance.","narrative":"Set on a small lot in the crossroads hamlet of Bramans Corners, this Baptist church on Route 30 is a three-bay-wide, four-bay-deep frame building. The main block dates to about 1868-1869 and shows Greek Revival traits such as a gable roof, wide frieze and broad corner pilasters. In 1891 a new front with an engaged central tower was added to a design by A. Wilmot, an architect from nearby Amsterdam. The tower has a pyramidal roof, scallop shingles, diagonal boarding, Palladian-inspired windows and a large fanlight over the double doors. The facade is the only documented architect-designed construction in Duanesburg. The congregation traces to 1800, when two small Baptist groups united, making it the oldest Baptist congregation in Schenectady County. A meeting house was built on the site in 1835. A frame church hall dating from about 1913 stands to the northwest and contributes to the property. New front steps in 1937 were the last major change.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect: 1860s main block unknown; 1891/1893 facade by A. Wilmot.
