Dwight for Dr. Frank S. Jennings and his wife, Mary.","why_significant":"The house is presented as an unusual example of late nineteenth century eclectic vernacular residential architecture and the best example in the Dryden multiple resource area of a local builder's personal interpretation of period fashion. It combines Queen Anne massing, Colonial Revival detailing and Shingle style features. Its overscaled octagonal tower and odd fenestration give it a non-academic, distinctive character unique in the village.","narrative":"Built in 1897 at 9 Library Street in Dryden, this wood-frame house was commissioned by Dr. Frank S. Jennings, a respected local physician, and his wife, Mary. Builder J. Dwight gave it an eclectic design that is unique in the village. Its most striking feature is a two-and-one-half-story octagonal tower covered in wood shingles, with oval windows set with keystones. A sweeping hip roof shelters a wraparound porch with tapered columns and a balustraded deck at the tower base. Queen Anne massing, Colonial Revival details such as hip-roofed dormers, and Shingle style elements all appear. The result is regarded as a non-academic, locally inspired interpretation of turn-of-the-century fashion, with an overscaled tower and unusual fenestration. Miss Jennie Marvin bought the house in 1904 and lived there for many years, so it is locally known as the Marvin residence. It remains a private home and a focal point of its residential block near the village center.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; builder J.
