It rests on a slightly raised stone foundation and has clapboard siding, a gable roof with cornice returns, a wide frieze and narrow corner boards. The recessed central doorway is framed by sidelights and a transom light. A contemporary one and one-half story wing extends from the southeast side. The farm also includes a two-stall garage and a modern metal barn, both non-contributing, and a contributing frame barn with a concrete wing. The house is valued as a representative rural vernacular farmhouse of the 1830s. Its five-bay center-hall plan, cornice returns, corner pilasters and doorway reflect the late Federal period, while the wide frieze and trabeated entrance show early Greek Revival influence. The intact nineteenth-century barn and the agricultural setting add to its importance.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular, late Federal and early Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition rated fair; in use as a residence, with no threats known.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:43.374311-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/84003176.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003176/ec299693c9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84003176/ec299693c9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Markie maypo","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Amos_Chapman_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Markie maypo</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Amos_Chapman_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314576","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapman_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5073274"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schenectady-county/chapman-farmhouse-84003176/"}
