It sits on about 1.5 acres.","why_significant":"The form describes it as one of Stoneham's best preserved mid-eighteenth century houses and the only one to keep its original agricultural setting and use. It is called the town's only remaining eighteenth century farm and the sole intact example of its agricultural origins. It is said to meet criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built around 1750 at 170 Franklin Street in Stoneham, this farmhouse began as the homestead of Elisha Wright. It is a two-story, five-bay clapboard house with an asymmetrical facade, a raised granite foundation, a boxed cornice and a pitched roof. A one-story rear ell and a two-story ell extend behind it. Mid-nineteenth century two-over-two sash, kept at the smaller eighteenth century window size, and a bracketed entry hood from about 1870 reflect later remodeling, which probably also removed a center chimney. The property has always been tied to agriculture, passing from the Wright family to the Greens, who held large landholdings along Franklin Street, and then to the Outram family around 1800. The farm includes a large lowland and swampy area shown on early maps. It was recognized as Stoneham's only surviving eighteenth century farm, the last intact example of the town's farming origins, and one of its best preserved houses of the period.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial vernacular","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used for agriculture (dairy farm) when recorded; several 20th century barns are too recent to contribute.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.745516-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/18/7913/63791318/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002863.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002863/cb8cabf020-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002863/cb8cabf020-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_ElishaWrightHomestead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_ElishaWrightHomestead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791318","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisha_Knight_Homestead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5361830"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/knight-elisha-homestead-84002863/"}
