It is also a distinctive and relatively substantial example of Greek Revival architecture, a style not widely represented in the city.","narrative":"Cobblestone Manor is a two-story house at 495 North Main Street on the northern edge of Canandaigua, built between about 1835 and 1840. Only its west front is faced in cobblestone; the side and rear walls are rubble stone covered with scored stucco. The Greek Revival design includes a pedimented gable facing the street, a wide frieze, prominent window surrounds, stone quoins at the front corners and a trabeated entrance with sidelights, pilasters and a transom. Early twentieth-century changes added a Colonial Revival porch with fluted Doric columns and a Palladian-style gable window. A cinderblock rear wing and a garage are modern additions. The house was listed as the only remaining cobblestone building in Canandaigua, part of a short-lived building trend on the Lake Ontario plain and along the Erie Canal, where more than 700 such buildings were erected. It is also one of few substantial Greek Revival dwellings in the city. It was originally a residence and now serves as a home for adults.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Originally a residence; now used as a proprietary home for adults.
