It retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship. It also dates from the earliest settlement along North Street.","narrative":"Built around 1826 for Caleb Wiley, this house at 125 North Street in Stoneham is regarded as the town's best preserved example of the traditional Federal period house. It is a symmetrical, five-bay, two-story building with a center entry, a pitched roof and twin rear wall chimneys. It rests on a granite foundation and is clad in clapboards with narrow cornerboards and flat window architraves. Unlike earlier houses, its second-story windows are not set into a heavy boxed cornice. The 6/6 sash appears original, and the entry has half-length sidelights beneath a twentieth-century portico, the house's only alteration. The house dates from the earliest settlement along North Street. Wiley's property once covered about 47 acres in agricultural use, as was typical along the street. Twentieth-century subdivision reduced the land, but mature plantings preserve some sense of the original setting. The house is listed for its architectural integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal vernacular","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in residential use; the only noted alteration is a twentieth-century entry portico.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.202235-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/7907/63790709/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002848.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002848/3076d35d37-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002848/3076d35d37-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_CalebWileyHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_CalebWileyHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790709","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caleb_Wiley_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5019326"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/wiley-caleb-house-84002848/"}
