The architect is unknown and the house has been used as a residence since it was built.","why_significant":"It is one of only a few well-detailed examples of the Queen Anne/Stick Style in Stoneham. It sits at the center of a group of three period houses in one of the town's largest late 19th-century suburban subdivisions. It represents Stoneham's suburban expansion and is said to meet criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built around 1887 at 33 Chestnut Street in Stoneham, this clapboard and shingle house is one of the town's best-detailed examples of the Queen Anne/Stick Style. It has a rectangular plan with a cross gable on the south side. Decorative features include punched vergeboards, patterned shingling in the gables, a scalloped valance beneath the eaves, a jerkin-headed front gable, and a front and side porch with turned balusters. Windows hold six-over-one sash, and the entry sits at the southeast corner. The house was built in the Mt. Discovery area, one of three suburban subdivisions Stoneham attempted to plat and promote, none of which was fully realized. Lots on the west side of Chestnut Street were sold from the estate of town surveyor Amasa Farrier. The house stands in the middle of a group of three period houses with the Franklin B. Jenkins and Sidney A. Hill houses, and it retains its original location, design, materials and setting.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne/Stick Style","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence; no major alterations recorded and no outbuildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.084668-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/62/7918/63791862/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002727.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002727/5b1655c228-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002727/5b1655c228-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_NewtonLamsonHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_NewtonLamsonHouse.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"89002328","name":"Nobility Hill Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/massachusetts/nobility-hill-historic-district-89002328/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791862","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton_Lamson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7020293"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/lamson-newton-house-84002727/"}
