Jenkins. The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it Stoneham's best late example of the Queen Anne style with Shingle Style influences. It is also cited as representative of the town's suburban expansion and as associated with Franklin B. Jenkins, a local shoe manufacturer. It meets criteria A, B and C.","narrative":"Built around 1895 at 35 Chestnut Street in Stoneham, this shingle-clad house is regarded as the town's best example of the Queen Anne style with Shingle Style influences. Its L-shaped plan joins two cross-sections at a prominent octagonal corner tower, and intersecting pitched roofs cover the 2½-story form. An open verandah wraps from the front entry toward the rear. Details include a triple window on the facade, two stained glass stair windows and a gable lunette on the side elevation. The house was the residence of Franklin B. Jenkins, a partner in Vinton and Jenkins, which in 1891 was the third largest shoe manufacturer in Stoneham. It stands in the Mt. Discovery area, one of three subdivision efforts in town, developed at this end of Chestnut Street from the mid 1880s. Together with the Lamson and Hill houses, it forms a distinctive group of three period houses, and it retains its integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne/Shingle","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Present and original use is residential; no alterations are noted and the house has not been moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.422593-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/56/7922/63792256/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002702.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002702/ba5687c39d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002702/ba5687c39d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_FranklinBJenkinsHouse_35ChestnutStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_FranklinBJenkinsHouse_35ChestnutStreet.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"89002328","name":"Nobility Hill Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/massachusetts/nobility-hill-historic-district-89002328/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792256","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_B._Jenkins_House_(Chestnut_Street,_Stoneham,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715478"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/jenkins-franklin-b-house-84002702/"}
