Jenkins, a local shoe manufacturer, and illustrates the community's social development. It is argued to meet criteria A, B and C.","narrative":"Built around 1860 at 2 Middle Street in Stoneham, this modest Greek Revival cottage follows a side-hall plan enlarged by a full ell on the west side, giving it an L shape. Clapboard siding, wide cornerboards treated as pilasters, a wide frieze and a raking cornice in the gable end mark the style. The entry is framed by pilasters, a frieze and a projecting molded architrave, and the half-length sidelights have since been filled in. The house rests on a brick foundation and has 2/1 sash. It was recorded as a well preserved example of the most common mid-nineteenth century house type in Stoneham. Franklin B. Jenkins, partner in the shoe manufacturing firm Jenkins and Vinton, lived here in the 1870s and may have built it. His neighbors included another shoe manufacturer, and he later moved to a larger frame house on Chestnut Street as the local shoe industry prospered. The house reflects both the town's building traditions and its social development.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; the form lists a garage as an outbuilding, and the sash and sidelights have been altered.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.178977-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/40/7922/63792240/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002699.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002699/b6ad4c74ce-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002699/b6ad4c74ce-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_FranklinBJenkinsHouse2MiddleStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_FranklinBJenkinsHouse2MiddleStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792240","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_B._Jenkins_House_(Middle_Street,_Stoneham,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5491278"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/jenkins-franklin-b-house-84002699/"}
