It is symmetrical, five bays wide, with a center entry and chimney under a pitched roof with pedimented dormers thought to be original. A one-story ell extends to the rear. The house rests on a granite foundation and is clapboarded on all sides except the facade, which is flush boarded in imitation of grander buildings. Windows have 6/6 sash, the entry has three-quarter-length sidelights, and pointed arch windows light the gables. A full-width front porch on Tuscan columns was added in the early twentieth century. The land was long held by the Richardson family, who farmed and made shoes, and kept a shoeshop on the property. The house was listed for its architectural character and its retained integrity as a locally notable Greek Revival cottage.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Residential use; a front porch was added in the early twentieth century (c. 1920).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.42022-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/64/7908/63790864/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002688.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002688/8475eb73c4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002688/8475eb73c4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_391WilliamStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_391WilliamStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790864","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_391_William_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715581"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-391-williams-street-84002688/"}
