Its style is transitional between Greek Revival and Italianate. Windows have projecting frames and 6/6 sash, the entries are centered on the facade beneath a single open porch, and decoration includes paneled pilasters and a bracketed cornice. The house was built beside the South School (1856) in the Summer-Pond Street area, a neighborhood of laborers and shoemakers from about 1820 to 1915. It is one of only two well-preserved double workers' houses in Stoneham and represents the variety of workers' housing in that district. Benjamin Hibbard, a horsecar driver, lived here in the 1870s and 1880s; other residents are unknown. The house retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship, and no major alterations are recorded. It is now used as apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Transitional Greek Revival / Italianate","criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Presently used as apartments; no major alterations recorded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.165385-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/96/7912/63791296/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002642.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002642/45383d6af4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002642/45383d6af4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_BenjaminHibbardResidence.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:StonehamMA_BenjaminHibbardResidence.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791296","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Hibbard_Residence","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4888810"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/hibbard-benjamin-residence-84002642/"}
