It is also tied to Amasa Farrier (1803-1883), Stoneham's principal nineteenth-century surveyor and landscape designer, who laid out local cemeteries and subdivisions.","narrative":"Built around 1865 at 55 Central Street in Stoneham, this two-story Italianate villa was the family home of Amasa Farrier. It has an L-shaped plan with a one-story porch set in the angle, clapboard siding with wide cornerboards, and a nearly flat, overhanging roof carried on paired brackets. The foundation is brick, and the windows have heavy projecting caps and original six-over-six sash. The house is regarded as one of a small number of local examples that keep their original details. Farrier (1803-1883) came to Stoneham in 1838 and worked as its principal surveyor and landscape designer while holding several town offices. He subdivided land for homebuilding and designed the Stoneham Cemetery in 1844 and Lindenwood Cemetery in 1862, work that shows familiarity with the English landscape gardener John Claudius Loudon. A picturesque landscape design once flanked the side of the house. It was listed for its architecture and its link to Farrier.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Form lists no major alterations and says the house has not been moved; original 6/6 sash survive.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.356503-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/54/7917/63791754/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002605.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002605/62334cb21c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002605/62334cb21c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amasa_Farrier_House,_Stoneham_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amasa_Farrier_House,_Stoneham_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791754","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amasa_Farrier_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4740379"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/farrier-amasa-house-84002605/"}
