It is judged to meet criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built around 1885 at 10 Flint Street in Stoneham, this Queen Anne style house was constructed for Bernard Cogan, son of Patrick Cogan, whose shoe factory, Patrick Cogan and Son, was founded in 1876. Bernard worked in the business as a partner with his brother James, and built the house near the family factory on Main Street. The house has a rectangular plan with a rear cross-gable. Its features include decorative shingles in the gables, a vertical board valance beneath the eaves, and a front and side porch with turned balusters and a decorative rail. Windows are mostly one-over-one or two-over-two sash, and the entry is framed by three-quarter sidelights. Walls are clapboard and shingle. The house keeps its integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship. It is considered one of only a few well detailed Queen Anne or Stick Style houses in Stoneham, and it represents the homes shoemakers built as they advanced socially. It is listed under criteria A and C.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown","architectural_style":"Queen Anne (Queen Anne/Stick Style)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Residential use, with no major alterations recorded and not moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.832974-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/44/7914/63791444/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002546.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002546/2d016b8b26-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002546/2d016b8b26-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bernard_Cogan_House,_Stoneham_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bernard_Cogan_House,_Stoneham_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791444","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Cogan_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4893006"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/cogan-bernard-house-84002546/"}
