It is also one of the oldest continuously operating library buildings in Herkimer County. It retains nearly complete exterior and interior integrity, including original furnishings, and has long served as a community center.","narrative":"Jordanville Public Library sits on a knoll facing Main Street in the town of Warren, Herkimer County. Built in 1907-1908, it is a one-story, gable-roofed building with clapboard siding and a portico of four Tuscan columns, a modillioned cornice and a circular window in the tympanum. Inside, the original hard pine woodwork, bookcases, stone fireplace and reading room furnishings survive, along with a later cove mural of trees. The library was a gift to the village from Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Robinson and Mrs. Harriett R. Wolrych-Whitmore in memory of their parents, on land donated by Mrs. Freeman Bell, and Theodore Roosevelt helped dedicate it in 1908. It was designed by the New York firm Trowbridge and Livingston, known for banks, hotels and civic buildings, and is a rare small-scale example of their work. One of the oldest continuously operating library buildings in the county, it has also served as a community center and historical society headquarters.","period_of_significance":"1907-1908","architect_builder":"Trowbridge and Livingston","architectural_style":"Neo-Classical","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied and in use as a library; described as in good condition and virtually unaltered, with only minor mid-twentieth-century changes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.509035-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/84002397.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002397/47b1bab19c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002397/47b1bab19c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 2.0","author":"Doug Kerr from Upstate New York","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jordanville_Public_Library_Sep_10.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Doug Kerr from Upstate New York</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jordanville_Public_Library_Sep_10.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75318154","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordanville_Public_Library","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6277379"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/herkimer-county/jordanville-public-library-84002397/"}
