It sits within a well-preserved mid-nineteenth century farm complex that retains outstanding integrity and much of its original acreage. It was built for Abram Mook, a wealthy farmer active in the area's early growth.","narrative":"Mount Pleasant is a working farm on Indian Falls Road in Corfu, Genesee County, New York. Its centerpiece is a twenty-room Italianate house built in 1861-1862 by Abram Mook, a wealthy farmer who helped develop the surrounding area and built the Indian Falls-Batavia Road and a suspension bridge over Tonawanda Creek. Seven carpenters worked on the house, using yellow pine and ornate trim shipped via the Erie Canal to Lockport. The two-story main block has a low hip roof, a cupola, paired brackets with pendants, cornice lintels, floor-to-ceiling windows and decorative porches, all applied to a traditional side-hall form with rear wings. Inside are plaster ceiling medallions, a slate-lined pantry and a mahogany stairway. The 31 acres also hold the pre-1854 original dwelling, now a garage, a brick smokehouse, a c. 1925 barn and equipment shed, and three wells. The property was listed for its architecture and its well-preserved farm setting.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Abram Mook; builder","architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence and working farm; the main dwelling is described as relatively unaltered, with outstanding integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:42.546836-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/84002393.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002393/03bc71d566-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002393/03bc71d566-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mt_Pleasant,_Indian_Falls,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mt_Pleasant,_Indian_Falls,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317910","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Pleasant_(Indian_Falls,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6922874"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/genesee-county/mount-pleasant-84002393/"}
