Architect is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it one of the best conserved examples of a ca. 1840 residence near Methuen's center. It represents the simple, often enlarged dwellings built near the town's industrial and commercial core between 1820 and 1860. It is argued to meet criteria A and C as representative of a popular architectural style and housing type of the early 19th century.","narrative":"Located at 15, 17 and 19 Park Street on a tree-lined residential street near downtown Methuen, this clapboard house dates to about 1840 and is built in the Greek Revival style. The five-bay main block has a central entry and keeps its original simple window frames and cornice. Later Italianate changes include a bracketed door hood, a three-part north bay and two-over-two sash. A series of ells and a large rear addition were apparently added around the middle of the 19th century, and the pitched roof carries paired interior chimneys. The house is now divided into apartments. It was listed because it is among the best conserved examples of its date near the town center and retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship. It represents the modest, frequently expanded dwellings built near Methuen's small industrial and commercial core between 1820 and 1860, typically for mill employees or merchants, as the town center took on its present look.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently used as apartments; originally a private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.915924-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/92/7901/63790192/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002388.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002388/3e47c9fb1b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002388/3e47c9fb1b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 2.0","author":"EraserGirl","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15-19_Park_Street.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">EraserGirl</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15-19_Park_Street.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790192","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Preston_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913952"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/house-15-19-park-street-84002388/"}
