It represents housing built during the town's first period of industrial development, 1825-1860. It retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship.","narrative":"Standing at the corner of Broadway and High Street near Methuen's town center, this small Greek Revival cottage dates to about 1830. It is a two-story, clapboard-sheathed house with a five-bay facade, central entry, pitched roof and central chimney, plus a small ell at the west. Distinctive original features include a pedimented gable with a simply framed central window, a deep cornice, panelled pilasters and a narrow glazed transom over the door. First-story windows hold 6/6 sash. The house sits along the Essex Turnpike of 1806, now Broadway, and several generations of the Silver family, mostly shoemakers, owned it in the 19th century. It was listed for its architectural quality and its place in local development: it is regarded as one of the best preserved Greek Revival houses in or near central Methuen and typifies housing built between 1825 and 1860, the town's first period of industrial growth. A 20th-century rear addition is the only major alteration noted.","period_of_significance":"1825-1860","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is a private residence, the same as its original use; a 20th-century rear addition is noted.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.073694-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/94/7901/63790194/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002379.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002379/ab52326f8c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002379/ab52326f8c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 2.0","author":"EraserGirl","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_306_Broadway.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">EraserGirl</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 2.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_306_Broadway.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790194","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_306_Broadway","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914209"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/house-at-306-broadway-84002379/"}
