It is described as one of the five best Italianate examples remaining in Taunton. It is listed under Criterion C for its architecture and its integrity.","narrative":"Built around 1855 at 1150 Middleboro Avenue in Taunton, this clapboard house is a cross-gabled Italianate residence that keeps nearly all of its original trim and detailing. A central gable lifts the facade into a pavilion, and a one-story porch wraps two sides on chamfered posts with pendant brackets. Windows are two-over-two with cap-molded lintels, the gables hold paired round-arched windows, and a large bulls-eye window marks the central gable. N. S. Williams, a landowner and rural mill operator associated with the pond-side industrial site known as King's Furnace, moved from Lakeville to Taunton between 1854 and 1858 and is thought to have built it as his home, though no property transactions confirm this. The architect is unknown. The house is considered one of the five best Italianate examples remaining in Taunton and was listed for its architectural quality and its integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association. It remains a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a residence; the form states it is unaltered and has not been moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.378802-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/13/7893/63789313/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002285.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002285/3819870f7c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002285/3819870f7c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:N_S_Williams_House,_East_Taunton_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:N_S_Williams_House,_East_Taunton_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789313","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._S._Williams_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6951783"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/williams-n-s-house-84002285/"}
