Its open site and unusual lyre-patterned wooden fence give it exceptional visual quality. The form finds it retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association, meeting criterion C.","narrative":"This 1½-story farmhouse at 616 Middleboro Avenue in Taunton dates to about 1850 and follows the Greek Revival style. It has a side-hall, gable-front plan, a recessed wing and an attached 19th-century barn. The side entrance has sidelights and a pilaster-and-entablature surround, corner pilasters support the eaves returns, and the windows are two-over-two sash apart from a louvered triangular vent in the gable. The wooden fence across the front is of the same period as the house and is ornamented with openwork in a repeating lyre-shaped pattern. The farm is linked to Enoch Williams, who likely had the house built after buying several parcels on Middleboro Avenue from neighboring farmers around 1850. His name stays attached to the property through the 19th century. It belonged to the East Taunton Williams family and is one of the largest farms in the area by acreage. The house was judged to retain its original location, design, setting, materials and workmanship, and the nominated boundary covers the house, barn and fence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed as a residence; the form records no alterations and no moves.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.778979-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/7892/63789281/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002280.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002280/67d2beeef9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002280/67d2beeef9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Enoch_Williams_House,_Taunton_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Enoch_Williams_House,_Taunton_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789281","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_Williams_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5379341"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/williams-enoch-house-84002280/"}
