It is associated with Lovett Morse, an early president of what is described as the first bank founded in southeast Massachusetts (1812). It is also an excellent local example of a traditional five-bay central-entry house with characteristic Greek Revival detailing.","narrative":"Built in 1835 for Samuel Trescott Tisdale, this Greek Revival house at 17 Fayette Place in Taunton was once the centerpiece of an extensive landed estate stretching west to School Street, south to Main Street and east to Cedar Street. It has a central hall plan and sits on a high brick foundation. A one-story portico with full-length fluted columns wraps around three sides. The central entrance has a leaded transom and sidelights set into a boldly molded surround with cornerblocks, and six-over-six sash windows appear throughout. In the 1850s Lovett Morse, president of the Taunton National Bank, bought the property and kept it intact until his death in the 1870s, after which parcels were sold as the neighborhood developed. The house is considered one of the last surviving early 19th century estate residences in Taunton, and it is valued both for its association with Morse and as a well-preserved example of Greek Revival design. It is now used as apartments.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Present use is apartments; the form states the building has not been altered or moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.197507-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/77/7893/63789377/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002231.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002231/8c72aa3e3d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002231/8c72aa3e3d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_TisdaleMorseHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_TisdaleMorseHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789377","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tisdale-Morse_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7809544"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/tisdale-morse-house-84002231/"}
