It is clapboard-sided and has no outbuildings.","why_significant":"The nomination presents it as one of the most exuberant and elaborately detailed Queen Anne houses in Taunton, with Tudor-derived details, and in excellent condition. It also illustrates the late 19th and early 20th century subdivision of large estates by speculators in this part of the city. It is argued to meet criterion C.","narrative":"This Queen Anne house at 32 Cedar Street in Taunton was built around 1882 as the residence of Henry Morse. The land came from the large estate of his father, Lovett Morse, which was divided after the elder Morse died in 1880. The house is nearly rectangular, with central and side bay projections under a pyramidal hipped roof. A central bay pavilion carries applied, Tudor-derived trusswork and triple small-paned windows, and the front porch has half timbering on its pediment and turned posts. Windows are mostly two-over-two and one-over-one, grouped in fours within the bays. The building is clapboard-sided, has not been altered or moved, and has no outbuildings. Its plan is nearly identical to a house on West Brittania Street. It was listed as one of the most elaborately detailed Queen Anne buildings in Taunton and as an example of how large estates in this northern residential area were gradually subdivided. The nominated boundaries follow the current lot lines.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as being in excellent condition and unaltered; present use is residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.874987-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/97/7893/63789397/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002183.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002183/2f4cc5ccb9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002183/2f4cc5ccb9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_Morse_House,_Taunton_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_Morse_House,_Taunton_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789397","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Morse_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5726059"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/morse-henry-house-84002183/"}
