Wall.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it one of the finest and least-altered examples of Queen Anne Revival architecture in Davidson County. It reflects the late nineteenth century industrial boom in piedmont North Carolina, funded by the Wall family lumber business. Its Eastlake staircase and mantels are original vernacular interpretations of the style.","narrative":"Built between July and December 1896, this two-story frame house in the crossroads community of Wallburg was erected by George W. Wall, who with his brother founded the Wall Lumber Company in the late 1880s. The Queen Anne Revival design features a wrap-around porch with turned posts and fan-shaped brackets, stained glass accents, and cross-gables with decorative sawnwork. Inside, the entrance hall is sheathed in wood in intricate patterns and centers on an Eastlake-style staircase. Family tradition credits Wall's wife Hattie with designing the woodwork and his brother Turner with building the staircase and several mantels. The house has had only three significant alterations: a bathroom in 1908, a larger dining room in 1916, and a sunroom in 1973. Its significance rests on its largely intact architecture and its link to the lumber industry that brought prosperity to the North Carolina piedmont in the late nineteenth century. A smokehouse, woodshed and chicken house survive at the rear.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"George W.
