It reflects late 18th-century settlement of the outlying North Taunton area and is tied to the prominent Lincoln family. It meets criterion C.","narrative":"This house at 1916 Bay Street in North Taunton was built around 1775 by Ambrose Lincoln, Jr., a farmer, shortly after his marriage. It is a Federal I-house, two stories tall with a hipped roof and a five-bay facade. The central door, partially altered, is topped by a louvered fanlight set in a keystoned, molded surround. Windows are six-over-six sash with plain wood trim, and chimneys rise at the interior ends. The clapboard house sits on a lot of about one third of an acre, part of a small residential cluster organized around the North Taunton Baptist Church in an otherwise rural area. It remained in the Lincoln family until 1919, when it was sold to William Austin. The house was listed for its architectural value, as a locally important and well-preserved example of a rural New England house type that reflects the late 18th-century settlement of outlying North Taunton. It retains integrity of design, location, setting, materials, workmanship and association.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by Ambrose Lincoln, Jr.","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the form says it has not been altered or moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.21862-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/95/7892/63789295/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002157.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002157/d4df89c14f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002157/d4df89c14f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_AmbroseLincolnJrHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_AmbroseLincolnJrHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789295","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrose_Lincoln_Jr._House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4741817"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/lincoln-ambrose-jr-house-84002157/"}
