It is described as one of the best-preserved houses of its period in the city. It is listed under criterion C for the quality and preservation of its architecture.","narrative":"Built around 1875 at 135 Winthrop Street in Taunton, this clapboard house is a modest example of the Italianate side hall type. It rises 2½ stories under a gable front, with an intersecting two-story projection that holds a bay window. A first-story porch has chamfered posts, drilled brackets and valenceboard. The entrance sits in one side bay and has double-leaved doors in a molded surround. Two-over-two windows carry projecting hoods on small brackets, the gable windows are round-arched, and the cornice combines a fascia with small blocks and paired brackets. The house may have been built as the residence of George F. Dean between 1871 and 1881. It stands in a neighborhood of larger, often high-style late 19th century houses and estates. It was listed for its architecture because it keeps all of its original Italianate detailing and is considered one of the best-preserved houses of its period in the city. A 20th century frame garage stands on the lot.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; the form states the house is unaltered and has not been moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.406541-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/7893/63789309/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/84002105.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002105/72e7fcf55a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84002105/72e7fcf55a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_GeorgeDeanHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TauntonMA_GeorgeDeanHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789309","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Dean_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715487"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/bristol-county/dean-george-house-84002105/"}
