The store is one of only two country stores left in the county. It is also tied to Riley Everhart's career as farmer, merchant and tobacco manufacturer, and to the contractor D. K. Cecil.","narrative":"Riley Everhart's farm at the Arnold crossroads north of Lexington centers on a two-story brick farmhouse completed in 1885 by Lexington contractor D. K. Cecil. Its Italianate Revival design includes paired curvilinear brackets, sawnwork trefoil trim, segmental-arched openings and a center-hall plan. Around it stand a brick dairy and wellhouse, a double-pen log barn moved from a nearby farm, a granary, a gear house, a corn crib and other frame outbuildings. Beside the road is a tall, narrow frame country store from about 1880, still holding original counters and shelves. Everhart was a farmer, merchant and tobacco manufacturer whose factory once stood nearby, and the store also housed the Arnold Post Office from 1888 to 1901. The complex was listed as one of the most complete and best preserved late nineteenth century farm groups in Davidson County, with the finest Italianate house and one of only two surviving country stores in the county.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"D.
