It is an intact example of the church designs of Sanguinet, Staats, and Hedrick, the city's most prominent architects from 1900 to 1935. The form also marks religion and architecture as areas of significance.","narrative":"St. Mary of the Assumption Church is a Romanesque Revival building of mottled red brick and limestone on Fort Worth's Southside. It has an asymmetrically placed bell tower, a triple-arched entrance portal, a twelve-section rose window, and large round-arch windows of German stained glass made in Munich. Inside, a barrel vault rises 35 feet, and Carrara marble altars and statues, some saved from an earlier fire, fill the sanctuary. The parish began in 1908 with a frame church that burned in 1918 and again in 1922. Parishioners then hired the Fort Worth firm of Sanguinet, Staats, and Hedrick, and the present church was completed in 1924, with the first Mass on July 20. It was the fourth Catholic church in the city and the second on this site. It is regarded as an intact example of the firm's ecclesiastical work. Alterations have been minimal, limited to new entry steps and ramps, added exterior glazing, and the loss of two painted angels.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific dates 1923-24)","architect_builder":"Sanguinet, Staats, and Hedrick","architectural_style":"Romanesque Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied and in use as a church; described as in excellent condition and unaltered apart from minimal changes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.158493-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/82/9734/40973482/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/84001998.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001998/2829599373-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001998/2829599373-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:St._Mary_of_the_Assumption_Church.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:St._Mary_of_the_Assumption_Church.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40973482","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Mary_of_the_Assumption_Church_(Fort_Worth)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7590540"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tarrant-county/st-mary-of-the-assumption-church-84001998/"}
