It also reflects the role of Farmers National Bank, organized and chartered in 1887, in the development of Hillsboro and Hill County.","narrative":"Farmers National Bank is a two-story, rectangular commercial building at 68 West Elm Street in Hillsboro, Texas. Its construction is dated ca. 1885, with a major remodeling about 1913 that added new brick facing and a classical facade. The front features two monumental cast-concrete Ionic columns, a wide arched window opening, limestone sills and frames, and a limestone entablature with large dentils beneath a stone balustrade. Inside, imported marble trim, walls and wainscoting remain, along with many older furnishings. The bank was organized and chartered in 1887 by incorporators who were largely farmers and stockmen. It moved to this site in 1898 after acquiring the assets of the Hill County National Bank, and it was the oldest national bank in Hillsboro until its 1931 purchase by the Colonial Trust Company. Its listing rests on its architecture, which retains early twentieth-century integrity despite the remodeling, and on its role in local commerce and development. It remains in use as a bank.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899; 1900-","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Classical Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Physical condition is stated as excellent, and the building's current use is a bank.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.044423-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/9696/40969609/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/84001871.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001871/eca057cc73-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001871/eca057cc73-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Farmers_National_Bank.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Farmers_National_Bank.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969609","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002249"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/hill-county/farmers-national-bank-84001871/"}
