Its significance is listed under architecture at the local level. It is also associated with its original owner, Thomas Ezzell, who ran a meat market on Washington Street.","narrative":"This two-story frame house at 1236 Rutland Street in Houston Heights, Houston, dates from 1907. It has a roof of intersecting gables with undecorated gable ends and a two-story gallery that wraps to one side, held up by square posts, with plain square balusters on the second floor only. A three-sided chamfered bay sits under the front gable, with two-over-two windows in the bay and one-over-one windows elsewhere. A single front door with a transom opens on the first floor. Thomas Ezzell, who ran a meat market on Washington Street, bought the property in 1907 for $525. The house was listed for its architecture, as a good local example of the decorative Victorian style used for several of the larger homes in the Heights. Later changes include added siding and a modified porch. The lot is small, near the end of a residential block, and the house remained a residence when recorded in 1980.","period_of_significance":"1900--","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival influence (described elsewhere as Victorian)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Recorded in 1980 as in good condition and still used as a residence; siding was added and the porch modified.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:18.510226-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/88/9692/40969288/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/84001762.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001762/129d42636d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001762/129d42636d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Ed Uthman, Houston, Texas, USA","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ezzell_House_(1236_Rutland).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ed Uthman, Houston, Texas, USA</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ezzell_House_(1236_Rutland).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969288","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000967"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/harris-county/ezzell-house-84001762/"}
