It was the home of Dr. B.F. Coop and was pictured in a circa 1915 Heights promotional booklet as a prominent new home. It is also one of relatively few brick houses in the Heights.","narrative":"Built in 1914 at 1536 Heights Boulevard, this two-story brick house is one of the more prominent residences in the Houston Heights. It has a hip roof with a small front dormer holding three windows, and a porch wrapping around both sides on battered half-columns set on brick piers, with turned balusters between them. Stone griffins flank the foot of the front steps, and the front door has beveled glass and sidelights. Upstairs windows are nine-over-one, and downstairs windows are fifteen-over-one. The house was built for Dr. B.F. Coop, and an advertising booklet for the Heights from about 1915 pictured it as one of the notable new homes. Mrs. Coop was vice-president of the City Federation of Women's Clubs, active in civic affairs, a teacher, a principal and a school board member. Brick houses are relatively rare in the Heights, and this one is considered a fine post-Victorian example with bungalow influence. The rear porch has been enclosed and the interior altered, but the exterior remains in excellent condition.","period_of_significance":"1900--","architect_builder":"Unknown, said to be German","architectural_style":"Bungalow influence","criteria":[],"status_note":"Physical condition is listed as excellent; present use is residence. The porch was enclosed and extended at the rear, and the interior was extensively modified.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.461973-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/32/9692/40969232/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/84001757.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001757/2b0c9fe48c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001757/2b0c9fe48c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"Ed Uthman, Houston, Texas, USA","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dr._B._F._Coop_House,_1536_Heights_Blvd_Houston.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ed Uthman, Houston, Texas, USA</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dr._B._F._Coop_House,_1536_Heights_Blvd_Houston.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969232","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002116"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/harris-county/coop-dr-b-f-house-84001757/"}
