It is a single-story, rectangular wood-frame building with clapboard siding, a steep composition-shingle gable roof, lancet and rosette windows with stained glass, and a corner tower with brackets topped by a conical spire with decorative shingles. It is described as a good example of Carpenter Gothic style and the only one of its kind in Salado. The congregation was first organized in 1854, and its first full-time minister, J.E. Ferguson, was the father of later Texas Governor James Ferguson. In the early 1950s a small wood-frame church built in 1900 for the Prairie Lea congregation was moved to the site and attached to the rear without compromising the original structure. It is counted as a contributing element, while classroom additions of 1957 and 1983 are not. The property is in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Carpenter Gothic","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is church; condition is described as good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.89136-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/1/9682/40968201/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/84001573.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001573/edd8499626-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001573/edd8499626-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Larry D.
