It is also tied to the Roesler family, part of the first large group of Czech immigrants to Texas. Its largely intact period interior and its role on a busy market road add to its importance.","narrative":"Set on a hill about two miles west of Nelsonville in Austin County, this one-and-a-half-story farmhouse was built in 1892 by Frederick August Roesler to replace an 1873 home that had burned. Local tradition holds that the new house copies the first. It has a T-shaped plan, pine board-and-batten walls, a standing-seam tin roof, a raised foundation on brick piers, and a front porch with chamfered wooden posts. Inside, single-board walls stuffed with newspaper, crude pine flooring, and hand-carved door latches survive. A restored smokehouse, a well, a barn from about 1927 and a modern privy stand nearby. The house matters as one of few surviving vernacular farmhouses of its era in a county known for early German and Czech settlement. The Roesler family belonged to the first large Czech immigrant group in Texas. The house stood beside a busy road to the Houston market and served travelers. The Roesler family owned it until 1970.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":"Frederich August Roesler, builder (also given as built by occupant, F.A.
