It was built ca. 1860-65 for the Fitzpatrick family.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the farmstead is one of the finest surviving examples of local limestone farm construction, with Greek Revival and Italianate details. It also reflects the Fitzpatrick family, prominent in Lockport's social and philanthropic life, who occupied it until the 1950s. Its location on an early stage road adds to its landmark value.","narrative":"Beside Route 53 near Lockport, a T-shaped farmhouse of locally quarried limestone sits on a bluff with its barn, a three-foot dry stone wall and the remains of a cattle corral. Built about 1860-65, the house combines Greek Revival features, such as sidelights, a transom, flat stone lintels and pedimented gables, with Italianate rusticated quoins and a bracketed porch. No architect or builder is known. It is described as one of fewer than a dozen stone farmhouses surviving in Will County outside Lockport, and it keeps its original relationship to barn, wall and road. The farm was developed by Patrick Fitzpatrick, an Irish immigrant who arrived among Lockport's first settlers in 1833-34 and built up a 1,200-acre holding. His family supported the Catholic Church and helped establish Lewis University and a parish school. The house stayed in the family until the death of his daughter Frances in 1950. The interior was remodeled in the 1960s, and the building is now vacant.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1860-65","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival and Italianate details; vernacular farm architecture","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Listed as unoccupied and vacant; all windows boarded up, interior remodeled in the 1960s with no original details remaining.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.336583-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/15/8943/28894315/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/84001170.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001170/377c22cde9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84001170/377c22cde9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Teemu08 at en.wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FitzpatrickHouseLewis.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Teemu08 at en.wikipedia</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FitzpatrickHouseLewis.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28894315","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzpatrick_House_(Romeoville,_Illinois)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5455673"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/will-county/fitzpatrick-house-84001170/"}
