It is also tied to architect Harry Ridgway, Pasadena's first professional architect, and to Lukens, a civic leader and early forestry and reforestation pioneer.","narrative":"Built in 1886-87 on El Molino Avenue in Pasadena, this two-story Victorian house was designed by Harry Ridgway for Theodore Parker Lukens. The wood-frame building sits on a high brick foundation and is mainly Stick/Eastlake in character, with some Queen Anne touches. Gables, porches and half-octagon bays carry sawn and drilled bargeboards, friezes and fish-scale shingles, and the front doors have beveled and etched glass. Set well back on a landscaped lot with a fountain, palms and a wrought-iron fence, the house is among the few Victorians left in Pasadena. Ridgway was the city's first professional architect, and most of his many buildings have since been demolished or altered. Lukens was a real estate promoter, a mayor-equivalent council president, and a charter member of the Sierra Club. He carried out some of California's earliest reforestation experiments and worked with the federal forestry program. Later changes at the rear are minor, and the house remains essentially unaltered.","period_of_significance":"1886-1887","architect_builder":"Harry Ridgway","architectural_style":"Victorian; primarily Stick/Eastlake with some Queen Anne elements","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied as a private residence; in excellent condition, with the exterior restored and interior restoration under way at the time of nomination.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:27.892182-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/84000879.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84000879/b3f5587ea2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/84000879/b3f5587ea2-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"TheCatalyst31","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Theodore_Parker_Lukens_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">TheCatalyst31</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Theodore_Parker_Lukens_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123859295","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Parker_Lukens_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16894376"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/los-angeles-county/lukens-theodore-parker-house-84000879/"}
