It is also associated with Moses Taft, a locally important woolen and satinet manufacturer and banker. The form states it meets criteria A, B and C and retains integrity of location, design, setting and workmanship.","narrative":"Built before 1855 on South Main Street in Uxbridge, this two-storey wood-frame house reflects the Italianate taste of the mid-nineteenth century. It sits on a rock-faced granite foundation under a pitched roof, with a rectangular front block and an eastward ell joining a former stable. The symmetrical facade has wide corner pilasters, bracketed capitals, a cornice with paired brackets and windows with moulded caps. Later changes include a Colonial Revival entry surround, removal of the original full-length porch, and a one-storey wing added around 1900-1920. It was built for Moses Taft, born in Uxbridge in 1812, who grew up in his father's satinet mill and later ran several textile ventures, including the Central Woolen Mill. He also served as a bank president, selectman and state representative. The house was listed for its architecture, its association with Taft, and its surviving integrity despite alterations.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":null,"vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.784434-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/5/7936/63793605/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004139.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004139/0709b6a603-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004139/0709b6a603-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Tim Pierce","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Moses_Taft_House_Uxbridge_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Pierce</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Moses_Taft_House_Uxbridge_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793605","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moses_Taft_House_(Uxbridge,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6915952"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/taft-moses-house-83004139/"}
