It is also tied to the extensive Taft family, which dominated Uxbridge's eighteenth-century settlement, and to the area's agrarian development through the mid-nineteenth century.","narrative":"Built around 1810 on Richardson Street in Uxbridge, this two-storey timber-frame farmhouse sits on a hammered granite foundation under a pitched roof, with a central chimney and a rectangular plan. The symmetrical north facade has a central entry framed by pilasters that support a broken entablature with lozenges and a pediment, interrupted by a semicircular transom with lancet-arch tracery. Greek Revival window frames from about 1850 and a deep moulded cornice with gable returns complete the exterior. A nineteenth-century barn and several sheds survive nearby. The land probably belonged to a farm that Joseph Taft, one of Uxbridge's first settlers, gave to his son Moses in 1744, and the house was likely built for a later Taft descendant. In the mid-nineteenth century George W. Taft farmed the property and represented Uxbridge in the General Court. It was listed for its architecture and its link to Taft family settlement and local farming.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federalist","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence; the form records outbuildings and notes alterations including a partially capped chimney.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.339902-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/87/7930/63793087/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004138.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004138/e6994f55a4-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004138/e6994f55a4-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_GeorgeTaftHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_GeorgeTaftHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793087","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Taft_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5545065"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/taft-george-house-83004138/"}
