The site is also tied to many manufacturing ventures, starting with the Rivulet Manufacturing Company in 1814. It is nominated under criteria A, B and C.","narrative":"Rivulet Mill is a textile mill complex of nine structures along Rivulet Street in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. The site was first developed for textile manufacturing in 1814. The present Main Building, a wood-frame structure on a high brick foundation, was built in 1872 after the earlier mill burned. Brick buildings from 1866 housed the boiler and engine and the dye house and repair shop, when steam power was added to supplement the small water supply from Rivulet Pond. Later additions include a brick storehouse of 1886, storage buildings and a concrete-block shed. Across the street stand an Italianate company office of 1881, a barn and a carriage shed. Ownership passed from Sayles & McBride to Southwick & Sayles, later Sayles, Taft & Co., which made satinets, and then to worsted companies in the twentieth century. The complex was listed because it preserves good local examples of nineteenth-century industrial design and reflects the town's long manufacturing history.","period_of_significance":"1866 - mid 20th century","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Varied utilitarian styles; the office, barn and carriage shed are Italianate","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Many windows of the Main Building are covered with wooden screens (ca 1970-1980); the Main Building has been altered only cosmetically.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:58.026821-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/7935/63793581/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004130.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004130/b7c81225a8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004130/b7c81225a8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Ksherin","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rivulet_Mill_Complex,_1814,_North_Uxbridge,_MA.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Ksherin</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rivulet_Mill_Complex,_1814,_North_Uxbridge,_MA.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793581","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivulet_Mill_Complex","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7338995"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/rivulet-mill-complex-83004130/"}
