It is also tied to Joseph Richardson, one of Uxbridge's largest landowners and wealthiest citizens, and the first Democrat elected to represent the town in the General Court.","narrative":"Built around 1819 on Chockalog Street in rural Uxbridge, this two-storey timber-frame farmhouse rests on a hammered granite foundation and has a central chimney and an eastern ell. Its symmetrical front has a Federalist entry with narrow pilasters, an entablature, a cornice and a semicircular transom bearing the initials J.R. and the year 1819. Some original 12/12 and 12/8 windows survive, while other sash dates from the late nineteenth century, and aluminum siding was added in the 1970s. Joseph Richardson, a farmer born in Burrillville, Rhode Island, and brother-in-law of Bazaleel Taft, bought the surrounding farm in the early nineteenth century. He became one of Uxbridge's largest landholders and wealthiest citizens, and was the first Democrat elected to represent the town in the General Court. The house later passed to his widow and then to his son William, a farmer who lived there through the nineteenth century. It is valued as a good local example of vernacular Federalist building and for its link to Richardson.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federalist/vernacular","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence, as it was originally; it has aluminum siding from the 1970s and some late nineteenth-century sash.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.454071-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/13/7936/63793613/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004129.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004129/802e624b96-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004129/802e624b96-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Ksherin","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JRichardson_House,_Uxbridge,_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Ksherin</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:JRichardson_House,_Uxbridge,_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793613","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Richardson_House_(Uxbridge,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6286565"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/richardson-joseph-house-83004129/"}
