Its original front yard reached Main Street. The clapboard building rests on a hammered granite foundation and has a rectangular hip-roofed main block connected by ells to a rear stable. The symmetrical east facade has four windows per storey and a two-storey portico of Doric columns, with pilasters at the corners and floor-to-ceiling windows on the first storey. Brackets, a bay window and a circular porch pavilion were added in the 1870s-1880s. It is regarded as perhaps the most lavish Greek Revival house in the town. Its second owner, Dr. Ellis Chandler Taft (1831-1896), opened Uxbridge's first drugstore in 1857, later returned to buy the property in 1882, and served as a director of the Blackston National Bank. The house was listed for its architecture and local associations.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown","architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence, the same as its original use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.075263-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/1/7931/63793101/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004125.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004125/c0db05a305-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004125/c0db05a305-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_JudsonTaftHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_JudsonTaftHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793101","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judson%E2%80%93Taft_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715652"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/judson-taft-house-83004125/"}
