It is also believed to have been the home of Sylvanus Holbrook, a farmer and possible merchant who served on the first board of directors of the Blackstone National Bank in 1825, linking it to early local industrial development.","narrative":"Albee Road in rural Uxbridge is home to a two-storey, timber-frame house that tradition dates to about 1780. Clapboard walls rise from a rock-faced granite foundation, and the windows hold 12/12 sash in projecting frames with pinned joints. The symmetrical facade centers on a panelled door with a five-pane transom, framed by pilasters supporting a dentilled cornice and pediment. The frieze below the pediment alternates channelled panels with stylized trees. Most of the decorative trim appears to date from about 1800 to 1825. The house is believed to have been the home of Sylvanus Holbrook, who sat on the first board of directors of the Blackstone National Bank in 1825. Little else is known of him, though the bank role suggests he may have been a merchant as well as a farmer. Atlases from 1857 to 1898 list the property under the Holbrook family. It was recognized for its architecture and for its association with an early local backer of industrial development. A garage and small horse barn stand nearby.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Georgian/Federalist","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a private residence; a garage was added in the 20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.186293-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/17/7931/63793117/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004123.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004123/f8a3281a3c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004123/f8a3281a3c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_SylvanusHolbrookHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_SylvanusHolbrookHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793117","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvanus_Holbrook_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7660721"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/holbrook-sylvanus-house-83004123/"}
