Its Greek Revival side-hall plan design remains intact, along with high-quality later porch and gable details. It retains integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship, and it is listed under criterion C.","narrative":"Set on a hillside site west of Uxbridge's commercial district, this house at 26 Pleasant Street was built between 1855 and 1857 and is still used as a residence. It is a two-storey, side-hall plan building with clapboard walls, corner pilasters and a wide cornice. The east-facing gabled facade has a pilastered entry with sidelights, all hallmarks of the Greek Revival style. Around 1880 the house was updated with Victorian Gothic features, including an ornate porch on the south and east sides and an open porch set within an attic gable on the south. A stable with vertical board siding stands on the property, and a mid-20th-century addition extends the north elevation. Few historical associations are known; maps show A. Chapin as the first owner and E. C. Taft as a later owner. The house is valued mainly for keeping the decorative work of two architectural periods in good, recognizable condition, and it was listed for its architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival; Victorian Gothic","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a residence, as originally; a mid-20th-century addition was made to the north elevation.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.73604-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/9/7931/63793109/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004113.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004113/dc875300d9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004113/dc875300d9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_AChapinHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_AChapinHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793109","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._Chapin_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715376"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/chapin-a-house-83004113/"}
