A timber-frame barn stands across the street.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is an excellent local example of a popular mid-eighteenth-century house type built on farmsteads during Uxbridge's early settlement. It may also be linked to the Albee family, early settlers of Mendon. The form cites integrity of location, design, setting, workmanship and feeling.","narrative":"Set on Highland Street in rural Uxbridge, close to the Mendon line, this clapboard farmhouse dates from the mid-18th century. It is timber-framed, rectangular in plan, and covered by a gambrel roof, on a foundation of random granite ashlar with some granite facings. The north elevation is asymmetrical, with four windows east of the entry and one to the west, and the windows hold 12/12 sash with projecting caps. Mid-20th-century restoration added a six-panel door, a small-pane transom and some window details. A timber-frame barn across the street appears to predate the mid-19th century. An 1855 map labels the house as the property of E. Albee, probably Ellis Albee, a farmer, and later owners included C. Daniels and Charles A. Henry. The house was listed as a local example of a vernacular house type common on farmsteads during early settlement, and for possible ties to the Albee family.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Timber-frame vernacular","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Used as a private residence; restored in the mid-20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:56.38891-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/30/7931/63793130/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004102.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004102/fc06fd5076-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004102/fc06fd5076-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_EAlbeeHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UxbridgeMA_EAlbeeHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793130","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._Albee_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5321711"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/albee-e-house-83004102/"}
