It is associated with several locally prominent people, including Moses Ellis and architect Alexander Rice Esty. It also embodies the academic Italianate style as applied to a wood-frame residence, meeting criteria B and C.","narrative":"Set on a slightly elevated, tree-shaded 2.3-acre lot on Pleasant Street, this Italianate house was designed in 1866 by Framingham architect Alexander Rice Esty. It is square in plan, with a projecting central entry pavilion, an arched porte-cochere, a low hipped roof, clapboard siding and boldly scaled window pediments. Inside, the elaborate main stair and Victorian fireplaces survive. It was built for Moses Ellis, a Boston and San Francisco merchant who returned to New England in 1866, bought the 200-acre Buckminster Homestead, and replaced its 1768 house and tavern with this residence. Esty was known mainly for public works and churches, and also designed other Italianate houses in Framingham. After Ellis died in 1910, the house became the Danforth School, a boarding and day school for boys, and later housed landscape companies and a cotton machinery firm. It was listed for its architecture, its integrity and its ties to locally prominent people.","period_of_significance":"1866-1871","architect_builder":"Alexander Rice Esty","architectural_style":"Academic Italianate","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and occupied, with the interior rehabilitated; the exterior is largely unaltered and the house has had commercial and school uses.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.242189-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/60/7955/63795560/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83004022.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004022/6464ecb2bc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83004022/6464ecb2bc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FraminghamMA_MosesEllisHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FraminghamMA_MosesEllisHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63795560","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moses_Ellis_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715726"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/ellis-moses-house-83004022/"}
