It is also associated with the Sherman family, prominent 19th century dairy farmers. The form states it meets criteria A, B and C.","narrative":"Built in 1843 by Eber Sherman, this farmhouse sits on 7.8 acres at the western edge of North Adams, on land that was part of Williamstown until 1900. It is a 2½-story, five-bay, center-entry house with a gable roof and two interior chimneys. Greek Revival features include pilaster cornerboards, a wide frieze and a trabeated entrance, while heavy Italianate brackets and an octagonal-columned portico give it a distinctive local character shared with three other mid-19th-century houses in the city. The farm once covered over 310 acres and was known as a prosperous dairy and sheep operation producing wool, cheese and milk. After an economic depression in the early 1870s, it declined and was foreclosed in 1907. The house remains largely unaltered on its stone foundation. A stone cheese cellar, three barn foundations and a 1920 milk house survive on the grounds, which may also hold archaeological remains.","period_of_significance":"1843","architect_builder":"Eber Sherman","architectural_style":"Transitional Greek Revival/Italianate","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and occupied as a private residence; a 1920 concrete milk house has served as a guest house since the 1960s.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:11:57.250681-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/36/7941/63794136/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/83003929.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83003929/343d84690c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83003929/343d84690c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eber_Sherman_Farm,_North_Adams_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eber_Sherman_Farm,_North_Adams_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63794136","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eber_Sherman_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5331769"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/berkshire-county/sherman-eber-farm-83003929/"}
