Its street layout reflects unplanned growth along an old property line, and its landscaping and pecan groves are characteristic of the town. It also holds the homes of many early twentieth century business, civic, religious and educational figures, plus the 1902 Methodist Church.","narrative":"Walton Street and Church Street form an L-shaped neighborhood in east-central Baconton, Georgia, and hold the town's largest concentration of historic residential architecture. Most of the roughly 19 properties went up between 1900 and 1937, ranging from one to two stories and set back on shaded, well-landscaped lots. Styles include late Victorian Eclectic, Neoclassical, Bungaloid, Spanish Mission, Georgian Revival and houses influenced by the Prairie School and Craftsman movement. Walton Street has the larger houses, a wooden Methodist church built in 1902, and a brick school from 1935 that is now vacant. Church Street has more modest homes. The streets were never laid out as a plan; Church Street follows the old property line between land once owned by Robert J. Bacon and George W. Jackson. The area housed many of the town's merchants, landowners and civic leaders, and it was listed for its architecture, community planning, landscape and local history.","period_of_significance":"1900-1937","architect_builder":"Architect unknown; builder possibly Thomas Glausier","architectural_style":"Late Victorian Eclectic, Neoclassical, Prairie School and Craftsman influenced, Bungaloid, Spanish Mission, Georgian Revival","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Occupied overall, with residential, church and school uses; the 1935 Baconton School is described as vacant.
