It is the only structure in the nomination group that lies outside the main Norwegian settlement area. Its original owner, Gunarus Shefstad, was a farmer, carpenter and cabinet-maker who helped build Our Savior's Lutheran Church in 1876.","narrative":"Just north of Clifton's city limits on State Highway 6, this one-and-a-half-story stone house was probably built soon after Gunarus Shefstad bought the land in 1868. Shefstad came to Bosque County in the 1860s and worked as a farmer, carpenter and cabinet-maker. In 1876 he was hired to help build Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The house follows a symmetrical plan. Its south front has three bays, with a flat arch over the central doorway and segmental arches over the single windows on either side. The rear wall also has three bays, a flat arch over the broad central opening and stone lintels over the outer bays. An exterior stone chimney rises from the east gable end, and the gable roof is covered with corrugated metal. The house has been unoccupied since the 1950s and is dilapidated but relatively stable, with few alterations. It is used for storage, and no associated buildings survive. It is the only house in its group of Norwegian settlement properties that lies outside the main settlement area.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Symmetrical type stone house","criteria":[],"status_note":"Unoccupied since the 1950s; in dilapidated but relatively stable condition, used for storage, with few alterations.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.217828-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/95/9683/40968395/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/83003125.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968395","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000362"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/bosque-county/shefstad-gunarus-and-ingerborg-house-83003125/"}
