McKie. Contractor John Hendrickson built it with random limestone ashlar walls, a gable roof with a chimney at the north end, and a prominent cornice with carved-stone detail. Flat arches top the six-over-six double-hung windows. A one-story room projects from the north end, and the entrance sits off-center beneath a projecting portico. The house also has a full cellar, a feature not common in the area. A frame, clapboard addition was made at the rear in the mid-20th century, and a standing seam metal roof covers the house. It remains a residence, set back from Main Street on a lot that backs up to a creek. It is valued locally for its skilled stonemasonry, its unusual asymmetrical plan, and its link to early medical practice in Salado.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"John Hendrickson, contractor","architectural_style":"stone vernacular","criteria":[],"status_note":"Physical condition is listed as good; present use is residence, and a rear addition was built in the mid-20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:19.658354-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/73/9682/40968273/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/83003079.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83003079/7a15dc601f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83003079/7a15dc601f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 4.0","author":"Larry D.
