It is an intentional wood copy of the neighboring brick Benjamin Bissman House, and its sweeping porch and round corner tower set it apart from other frame examples. It is also tied to the Bissman family, prominent Mansfield merchants.","narrative":"Built around 1890 at 462 Park Avenue West in Mansfield, Ohio, this three-story wood frame house is a Queen Anne residence with clapboard siding, a stone foundation and a complex slate roof. A round, conical-roofed corner tower is balanced by a large projecting gable, with a tower-like attic gable between them. A two-story bay window projects on the west side, and two porches face the front, including a wide sweeping porch. Peter Bissman, son of the founder of the Bissman wholesale grocery business, lived here next door to his father's residence. The house is notable as a deliberate wood copy of the brick Benjamin Bissman House immediately to the east, which is called the most elaborate brick Queen Anne residence in Mansfield from the 1880s. The survey calls this house perhaps the finest surviving wood frame Queen Anne example in the city. A carriage barn stands at the rear, and the house was in very good condition when surveyed.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Bissman (builder)","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a residence; interior in very good condition and exterior in excellent condition at the time of the survey.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.424441-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/83002025.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83002025/ccd00a1050-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/83002025/ccd00a1050-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Smallbones","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:462_PAW_P_Bissman_Mansfield.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallbones</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:462_PAW_P_Bissman_Mansfield.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71986016","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138662106"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/richland-county/bissman-peter-house-83002025/"}
